Relationships

Correlation
This is a measure of the relationship between two variables: as one variable changes, how strongly is this linked to changes in another variable? It also indicates the extent to which one variable can be used to predict values in another variable. However, it does not prove a causal link between two variables. There are a variety of correlation measures that can be used, depending on the type of data analysed. These are often a useful stage in identifying variables to be used in more advanced techniques.

Regression
These techniques are used to establish a relationship between a variable and a number of other explanatory, or predictor, variables. A measure of how well the regression model explains the variable is obtained.
